Why we pray
I found this Hymn in a Hymn book that Kate left in the Prayer room. I love because it is so the heart of 24-7 Prayer. The continual prayer of the church world wide...
The day thou gavest, Lord, is ended
The day thou gavest, Lord, is ended,
the darkness falls at thy behest;
to thee our morning hymns ascended,
thy praise shall sanctify our rest.
We thank thee that thy Church,
unsleepingwhile earth rolls onward into light,
through all the world her watch is keepingand rests not now by day nor night.
As o'er each continent and island
the dawn leads on another day,
the voice of prayer is never silent, nor dies the strain of praise away.
The sun that bids us rest is wakingour brethren 'neath the western sky,
and hour by hour fresh lips are makingthy wondrous doings heard on high.
So be it, Lord;
thy throne shall never,
like earth's proud empires, pass away;thy kingdom stands, and grows for ever,
till all thy creatures own thy sway.
- John Ellerton, 1870

Next rhythm planned.
Well we have our next rhythm planned for March 29th to April 4th.
It will be in the same location as January's rhythm. However Monk Punk Christian Community Church has a new name...Look to the Cross for Victory Church. They like long names.
So, you are all invited out to come pray during that week. I think we may have a few scheduled times of corporate prayer, but mostly it will be like last time. People can sign up for 1 hour slots through out the week. Details of how to sign up will be posted in the next couple weeks. So Start thinking/planning when you can come spend some time with God. Remember it will be a first come first serve for the time slots. If there is a certain Time that you would like to sign up for please e-mail edmontonprayerroom@gmail.com and give your name, phone number and time slot that you would like to reserve. We will only be posting first names on the display calendar.
At the bottom of this page you can find a map of how to find parking in the rear of their house. You need to go down the ally between 88 and 87 Avenues. From the 88th Ave. you need to go through the parking lot across from the Urban Dinner and the Sugar Bowl. If you are coming from the south then you need to use 87th Ave. and access the ally from behind the Garneau Theatre.
We are open/needing ideas that people have for different "prayer stations" around the room. Let us know what God has been stirring on your heart.
As always any questions just e-mail me and I'll get back to you ASAP.
See you there.

Our first rhythm is over, sadly.
Our three weeks of prayer have come and gone. Many people participated, we made an impact on our city, but the most important thing was that God spent time with His kids. We had everything from prayer groups that meet all the time, to people that love their God but can't seem to get much alone time with Him.
As you will be able to tell from some of the artwork done, we had lots of children come and pray with their parent(s). This gets me excited for two reasons; the first reason being that we need to raise our kids in an environment that teaches them to communicate with their heavenly Father. The other reason for my excitement is that I could then hide my creative prayers in with the kids and no one would know!
My favorite prayer station in the whole room was the "Tree of Life". If you don't know what we did, let me explain. Kate painted a beautiful tree in the one corner of the room. People could then take a paper leaf, write a name of a loved one they wanted to see "grafted into the tree of life" (I know Jesus is the vine, but for those three weeks he was a tree). I loved to go in alone and just pray for those names on all those leaves. Every time I felt the love of both the person that wrote the name and the God who heard those prayers.
Across from the tree we had a map of Edmonton painted on the wall. People would take a piece of string, stick one end on the area of the city they were praying for, and on the other end was their prayer written on the wall or on a piece of paper.
I'd love to hear what other people thought of our first prayer rhythm. If you have any story, poem, revelation, testimony, or anything that you want to share about your time in the basement, please comment so we can hear about it.
All in all it was a great first rhythm of prayer. As we were beginning the first couple days of prayer, Shawn and Kate were telling me that they were wanting to keep doing this. As is the plan is to host rhythms of prayer in the Punk Monk Community Church house as long as we still fit. The next rhythm we are planning for is in March. As soon as we have actual dates set, we'll post them so you can plan on joining us.
Thank you to everyone who participated or prayed for us while we prayed. Below you will find a bunch of photos of what I found in the room on our last day. More photos are will be posted in the next couple days. (If you don't see your prayer, it's only because for whatever reason I couldn't get a good picture of it or I just haven't posted it up yet. Every prayer is sacred, even my drawings that look like the kids stuff)

Sonfire has found a home...Monk Punk Christian Community Church
We are wanting to bring you up to speed with what has been happening with Sonfire. We have been on a bit of a roller coaster the last couple months regarding rental spaces and finances. We had a space, then we didn’t, we had money, then we didn’t. We have gone back and forth on both of those a few times. And we thought that the ride stopped with us not having a space or a budget. The good news is….we now have a space! We have recently connected with an amazing church near the U of A that is wanting to host 24-7 prayer in the basement of their house. They are a beautiful community of believers that are focused on ministering to the punk and activist communities here in Edmonton.
God has spoken to me repeatedly over the last year, saying “Don’t despise small beginnings.” So, with discussion with some of our people we have decided that this is a much wiser place to start than the massive, and massively expensive place in china town that we
were wanting to rent. We still hope to rent it sometime, but for now it’s the Monk Punk Community Church house. You can find it at 10933- 88 Ave.When meeting with the pastors, we decided to open the room up for three weeks in January, starting Jan.2/09. I strongly encourage you to come down and check it out. Even if your not wanting to sign up for time slots, just come help us pray for His Kingdom to come to our lives, our city, our nation.
We are setting up a online calendar for you to be able to sign up for one or more hours of prayer. For instructions on how to sign up you or your group for an hour or more, e-mail me at sonfire_prayer@hotmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you there!
